Highland Lakes Garden Club
YARD OF THE MONTH - April 673Highland Lakes Cove
The May Yard of the Month is 673 Highland Lakes Cove. This is one of the most beautiful gardens in Highland Lakes. For those who have had an opportunity to visit the entire garden, you know the hydrangeas are the focal point. Please drive by to see this spectacular garden during the month of May.
The Highland Lakes Garden Club recognizes the time and effort required to keep our neighborhood spectacular. So, beginning in December 2007, the Garden Club began recognizing one yard each month as the "Yard of the Month." The selection is based on seasonal criteria with the exception of the fall months (October-December) when the judging is for the best seasonal/holiday display. Only the front yards are judged, and the selected yard displays an attractive "Yard of the Month" sign for the month.
Look in the newsletter and/or the web site every month for the address of the selection and drive (or walk) by to admire the results of your neighbor's hard work.
Women's Club at Work
There are many great things being done in our community by the women of Highland Lakes. Here are just a few!
We have been collecting laundry and personal items for the HH Women and Children's Center for the past several months.
Our first ever charity Sweetheart Dinner raised $786 for the Hannah Home Women and Children's Center! Check our website monthly to see what items are being collected each month for this organization.
The annual charity garage sale raised $750 for our local schools. Thank you to all who participated!
Thank you to all who contributed to our cookbook, Tastefully Highland Lakes, and all who purchased it. With the proceeds from the sale of the cookbooks, we are donating $500 to the Emily Ayers family to help defray Emily's medical expenses.
The Women's Club donated $150 to purchase a garden bench for the children's garden at the Shelby County Hanna Home Women and Children's Center. They will be our main charity for the 2007-2008 year. Please check back for opportunities to help out with this.
Last year our Hospitality group delivered 61 meals to new moms and others in need due to illness or death in their family. This is a great ministry, please consider volunteering!
The Knitwits group has been knitting hats (over 50 last year) that they deliver down to Children's Hospital for cancer patients. If you know of a need like this, please let us know!
Please let us know if your group has done something that we should list on here.
THANKS TO ALL WHO DONATE THEIR TIME TO EFFORTS SUCH AS THESE!
